 Who is Horizons GFA?

Horizons GFA provides access and opportunity to underserved Bridgeport students from PreK through college by emphasizing academics and social-emotional learning while providing exposure to a wide variety of social, cultural and recreational enrichment experiences.

With 100% of Horizons GFA students graduating high school in comparison to the 87% of underserved students across Connecticut who graduate, Horizons GFA transforms the future of Bridgeport students by providing a pathway for them to achieve success and build motivation at every step along their educational journey, from PreK through college.

A donation of just $25 is enough to provide reading materials for 1 student for the entire year! This donation covers costs of books for one student during the fall, spring, and summer that are not only interesting and exciting for students to read, but are also grade-level appropriate. These books are critical in helping each student grow as a reader

Who is Fun Math Horizons?

Fun Math Horizons is a project designed by me, Eva Simonte, a student at Staples High School hoping to share my experience with math with as many children as possible.

In elementary school, one of my teachers introduced math games in their classroom that sparked the concept within me regarding how math could be both enjoyable and applicable to real life. Through these games, I found myself learning to understand fundamental topics that I had previously struggled with, while actually enjoying it for the first time. I later found myself intrigued by how I could share my experience with others, and I hope to do so by making math fun and interesting through these kits.

I hope to use my experience teaching Math workshops at the Yerwood Center in Stamford, where I began experimenting with what activities the children found the most enjoyable, as well as noting which activities the children learned the most from. I have applied my observations to this project in order to create kits that children can both learn from and have fun doing so.
